THE FIVE QUALITIES
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. You will find that the five qualities which are inquiry, collaboration, creativity, communication and persistence are what people grow in at STEM. I think STEM education is where learning is not a burden on any student and that it is an environment where students grow in these five qualities.
I think DRSS emphasizes the importance of these qualities as opposed to tests and/or grades because teachers can see if you have learned anything by students writing about how they grew in the five qualities. I think you have time to explain the things you have learned instead of taking a big test that you only take once and that you only have a week to study.
I think the five qualities are incorporated in the work and projects we do and produce at STEM. One example of this is when I did the storybook project I grew in collaboration because I had to work with my partner, Jordan Watkins, to make our storybook. We had to agree on everything before we made a decision. I think here at STEM we grow in the five qualities while we do our work and projects.
Below will lead you to the my quality detail pages which will all talk about what each quality means to me.
